The festival in honor of St. Rocco is more commonly known as "san rocco of the vaddani" where you can taste the "vaddani" sweet chestnut prepared by the ladies of cardile along with live music. Is there a connection between san rocco and chestnuts, the Saint was not only the protector from the plague but was also revered for good harvest of this fruit considered valuable as the grain.
In honor of the Saint it was built the chapel and according to the beliefs, St. Rocco still looking over the town of cardile plague, smallpox and other epidemics. The cardilesi dec. 29 (term precisely chestnuts) venerate this holy in memory of the graces received and the abundance of crops in the chestnut.
